and ulna. The injuries were so severe that he had to undergo
multiple surgeries. This case settled during trial for
$1.2 million.
A 50 year old boiler room mechanic suffered an eye injury
after being splashed by a caustic chemical. The accident
was caused because of a defective container used to transport
the chemical. The injuries were aggravated because of
a lack of proper eyewash stations. A Dutchess County jury
found the man's employer and the manufacturer of the container
to be 93% responsible for the man's injury. The jury awarded
$600,000 in damages.
An 18 year old laborer was injured at a construction site
as the result of a fall from an elevated worksite. He
fractured his hip, femur and heel. He had to undergo multiple
surgeries. The case settled for $330,000.
A 46 year old man fell at a construction site, fracturing
both feet. The case settled for $137,500.
A 45 year old woman slipped and fell in an icy parking
lot which had not been properly plowed. She tore the cartilage
in her knee, requiring arthroscopic surgery to repair
the damage. The case settled for $100,000.
A 45 year old man visiting a construction site suffered
a knee injury and facial scar when a stairway collapsed
under him. He underwent an arthroscopic surgery to repair
the damage to his knee. The case was tried in Supreme
Court in Orange County. The defendant owner of the property
claimed that he told the plaintiff not to use the stairs
because they were unsafe. The jury found in favor of the
plaintiff and found the defendant 70% at fault for the
accident. The case then settled for $85,000.
A 9 year old boy suffered facial scarring as the result
of an attack by a pit bull. The case settled for $300,000,
the full amount of the defendant's insurance coverage.
