Paul attended the University of Pennsylvania where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Economics in 1977. He then went on to New York Law School where he graduated with honors in 1980.

He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1981 and started his career as a staff attorney with the New York City Office of Corporation Counsel. In 1983 he entered private practice as a litigator in the New York State and Federal Courts.

In 1986, he and Jeff Feldman founded the firm of Feldman & Kleidman (today known as Feldman, Kleidman & Coffey).

He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Dutchess County Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Paul is Second Vice President of the Board of Trustees of Kingston Hospital and Chairperson of the Corporate Affairs Committee.

Paul resides with his wife and three children in the Town of LaGrange.
